Wilkinson Terrace is the second largest public housing development in the City of Shreveport. In 1993, $4.2 million in renovations of the apartments and landscape was completed. The revitilization of the area has brought new businesses to the surrounding community.
Barret Street Community Park is adjacent to the development and provides residents with an outdoor basketball court, walking track, and baseball diamond.
Wilkinson Terrace is conveniently located near Mall St. Vincent, LSU Health Sciences Center, Shriners Hospital for Children, and many businesses.
Wilkinson Terrace has 184 walk-up apartments. Floor plans range from one- to three-bedroom units. The rent includes water and and electricity allowance that is adequate for a particular family size. Electricity usage in excess of the allowance is charged to the tenant. Gas is paid directly to the gas company by the tenent.
A laundromat, gymnasium, and library is located within the main building. 24-hour security is provided by the Shreveport Police Department. Newly installed security cameras provide an additional watchful eye insuring safety of residents. Neighborhood Networks operates a computer lab onsite open to both youth and adult learners. Two recreational aides are employed by SHA to instruct and oversee youth activities in the gym.
