In 1988 , under the 67 Aquisition Program, 67 homes were purchased from the Federal Housing Association (FHA) and private homeowners. An additional 14 homes were purchased in 1990 under the Scattered Sites (LA 2-9) initiative. All homes purchased under these two programs are designated as single family units. Utilities are the responsibility of the tenant. Tenants are eligible to participate in all programs offered by SHA. Although the homes are spread throughout different communities, this cluster operates as any other public housing development. Residents voice their concerns by participating in a Resident Counscil. The Resident Council sponsors youth dances and fundraising events. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts troops offer opportunities for the children to experience camping, field trips, and community service projects. The scouting troops have traveled to Dallas, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Atlanta. to experience local cultures and historical sites. I-49 Properties differ from standard public housing in that these units have fixed rent based on bedroom size. The rental rates are set by the SHA Board of Commisioners. Currently rates are $250 for a two-bedroom home and $275 for a three-bedroom home. Utilities are the responsibility of the tenant. Tenants of the I-49 Properties are eligible to participate in any program that SHA offers. Applications are taken by appointment only at 2500 Line Avenue.
