The Housing Authority of the City of Shreveport continues to pursue its commitment to provide families with high quality homes absent the physical markers of public housing. By purchasing homes located in residential communities, SHA enables residents to live in a neighborhood setting and still have their rent subsidized.

In 1988 , under the 67 Aquisition Program, 67 homes were purchased from the Federal Housing Association (FHA) and private homeowners. An additional 14 homes were purchased in 1990 under the Scattered Sites (LA 2-9) initiative.

All homes purchased under these two programs are designated as single family units. Utilities are the responsibility of the tenant. Tenants are eligible to participate in all programs offered by SHA.

there are 47 Scattered Sites properties contained in this cluster. These individual homes are scattered throughout the Shreveport area and were purchased from private homeowners. This program exemplifies SHA's commitment to giving residents the option of living in a neighborhood setting and benifiting from rent subsidies.

Although the homes are spread throughout different communities, this cluster operates as any other public housing development. Residents voice their concerns by participating in a Resident Counscil. The Resident Council sponsors youth dances and fundraising events. Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts troops offer opportunities for the children to experience camping, field trips, and community service projects. The scouting troops have traveled to Dallas, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Atlanta. to experience local cultures and historical sites.
